This morning I read an interesting article in the Standard newspaper, it was quite refreshing to read of an agrovet who is winning business by making use of an innovative short message service (sms) based application that farmers and buyers of seeds can use to check if the product they have purchased is real or fake. By sending a text message to 1393 with batch number of the seed the buyer gets an alert whether the same is real or fake. Read more about it on (http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/business/article/2000205721/simple-sms-technology-saves-eldoret-farmers-from-buying-fake-inputs). While I am yet to test the service it is definitely one way to increase the levels of professionalism in Agriculture by having an independent means of verification. What other tools for weeding out fake inputs exist and how do we spread awareness on these?
